Muller grabs hat trick, as Germany shock Portugal 4-0
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Thomas Muller grabbed a hat trick as Germany stamped their class on Portugal defeating the FIFA number 4 ranked team 4-0 Monday.
Germany went ahead inside 12 minutes with a penalty in their World Cup Group G match when Thomas Muller buried from the spot after a German attacker was pulled down inside the box.
The FIFA number 2 team doubled their score in the 32nd when Mats Hummel climbed high between two Portugal defenders to nod home from a corner.
Portugal was down to ten men in the 37th when Pepe was ejected for a head butt on Muller after the German engaged in theatrics feigning a foul.
Muller returned to get his second goal and Germany’s third in the 45th minute with the Portuguese defence in disarray.
Portugal with ten men throughout the second half had an uphill task, and it was no surprise that Germany added a fourth goal.
Muller got his hat trick in the 78th minute to become the leading goal scorer, so far, in the 2014 World Cup tournament.
