Noted movement of horses
From the moment the Overnight programme was made public for last Saturday’s Derby Day programme there were some noted changes in stable assignments for some horses. It was obvious that M S Stables had moved their horses from the care of veteran trainer Norman Palmer to the duo of trainers Solomon ‘Sala’ Sharpe and Patrick ‘Wacky’ Lynch. When checks were made our reporter was told by someone close to M S Stables that all horses have been moved from Palmer and some are going to be sold. Sharpe got off to a good start as Kobalt (Shane Ellis) easily won the first race while Phineas now taking orders from Lynch was unplaced in the race won by Bubbling Angeline.
ÁNGELINE’ BUBBLING IN THE SHORTER RACES
After failing in her exploits at glory in the longer Classic races, Bubbling Angeline returned to her forte of sprinting on Saturday to maul a competitive Overnight Allowance field over six and a half furlongs. After disputing the lead with Fortuneonehundred, the chestnut filly by Blue Pepsi Lodge – Miss Angeline went about her business with Percy Williams to win by all of 10 lengths. She will definitely move up the ranks. It should be noted that for the entire raceday there was a very heavy wind blowing which helped to hinder runners coming down the straight.
JOCKEY CHRISTOPHER DOUGLAS A WINNER
The Deon Facey trained Lady Arazi provided jockey Christopher Douglas with his first winner this season from 15 rides. Douglas had to push out the four-year-old chestnut colt by Indy Wind – Bright Chapel to hold the late challenge of Annisa with Davidan Robinson in the saddle and Sister Yvonne the mount of Romario Saunders going 1,200 metres. For Facey it was his second winner of the season. Well, Mr Douglas you have started, please continue.
LAKELAND FARMS RETURNS
As the two-year-old season continued on Saturday last, the speedy Fantasy (Homing Instinct – Sunshineofmylife) shot out of gate number one and was never in danger of losing thereafter. The win by Fantasy over three furlongs straight provided owners Lakeland Farms Limited with a visit these days to the winners’ enclosure. Lakeland Farms was associated in the past with horses the like of Oaks, Rhythm of my Heart and Classique. Really good to see the blue and yellow silks flowing again.
LADY ABIJITA FINALLY COMES HOME
After winning the Oaks in April of last year, the Richard Azan trained Lady Abijita was expected to have long since gone over the non-winners of three-level. Not so after many attempts. After a five month rest she returned to the track on May 14 finishing fourth, then came back again to finish second. Those two runs were the preparation necessary for her victory over a distance, six furlongs, which based on past performance is not one considered to be one of her best trips. Azan should thank jockey Dane Nelson for a strong and persistent ride.
