JAAA makes changes to WJC squad
THE selection committee of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has made several changes to the team that will represent the island at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, later this month.
Two athletes who were named in the original team last week have been removed after they failed to make the minimum standard at last weekend’s XX Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, while three were added.
Despite winning the Under-20 girls’ 400m/800m double in Mexico, Monique McPherson was taken off the list as well as sprinter Fabian Hewitt.
Thrower Shanice Love was added to the girls’ team, while CAC juniors Under-20 triple jump champion Odaine Lewis and sprinter Raheem Robinson were added.
The Jamaica Observer understands that there are plans for a training camp to be held in Kingston, starting later this week, before the team leaves for Oregon between July 18 and 20.
The World Junior Championships will be held July 22-27 at Heyward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
