Princess Popstar graces the track again
Princess Popstar, the finest filly to be produced in Jamaica for some time now, will go in search of consecutive wins as a three-year-old when she takes on older horses in an Open Allowance race at Caymanas Park today.
With no sponsored race on the nine-race programme, the three-year-old and upward call going 1,200 metres will fill the breach and being the third race on the card is set to go to post at approximately 2:15 pm, with first post at 1:15 pm.
The outstanding reigning Horse Of The Year is yet to taste defeat from five career starts, having already won four races as a two-year-old before making her senior racing debut among Overnight Allowance horses three weeks ago. They include all three SVL-sponsored two-year-old series races, among them the rich Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, and a maiden call in a combined 44 lengths.
Lightweight jockey Percy Williams, who has already scored three wins with the filly, will again ride for trainer Philip Feanny and owners 2 Penyu.
As is expected going so light the rest of the field will be in the race for minor purses, but her fellow speedy stablemate, the imported five-year-old chestnut horse El Poderoso with Winston Griffiths in the saddle could provide her with her stiffest challenge after they are sent on their way by the starter.
El Poderoso has already won twice at this level and with the master reinsman Griffiths up, Princess Popstar will have to go to get rid of her nimble-footed stablemate after setting down for the drive.
The Guv, an eight-year-old gray from neighbouring stables, is no back number and with the distance no challenge, should be putting his best work along the rails going in search of one of the minor shares. Regular jockey Aaron Chatrie has given way to jockey Kerry-Gayl Robinson.
