What They Say! – Davidan Robinson
When did your start your career as a jockey?
I started my career as a jockey on September 8, 2012 with the last group of apprentices. Before that I was involved in the sport just being around trainer Patrick Lynch from as early as 2008. Being around horses on a regular basis, I got to like them, so the decision to join racing as a professional was a simple one for me.
Which horse was your first winner?
My first winner was aboard the Lance Richard-trained Cajun Fiddler over 1,400 metres. After my first win, I was very excited, all the anxious moments were over and I was happy and very pleased as finally after dreaming about it, I had reached the winners’ enclosure.
Which horse was your longest odds winner?
My longest odds winner was Little Chups at odds of 24-1 for trainer Boris McIntosh over 1,700 metres. That win was not surprising as we had this horse as a ‘soup’, but overall it was a good win.
Which is the best horse that you have ridden?
To be honest, the best horse that I ridden so far is The Professional. Although I have ridden this horse once, I have worked him in the mornings and I can tell that he is a nice horse with a lot of potential.
Which is the best horse that you have seen race at Caymanas Park?
I have seen a few good horses but to me I would say that the Philip Feanny-trained Princess Popstar is the best horse that I ever seen race at Caymanas Park. Despite her injury, she is the first two-year-old to win the juvenile Triple Crown, winning all the Supreme Ventures Limited races. The way how she won her races was spectacular and she won in impressive times as well.
Who influenced your career the most?
Since I am in the racing industry everyone has been good to me. But I would like to give special thanks to jockey Paul Francis, trainers Patrick Lynch, Boris McIntosh and Everal Francis for their support and encouragement. I would also like to thank my close friends George Brown and Junior Hanna for their support as well.
