Bassarath eyeing more cricket for T&T
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Azim Bassarath wants even more cricket for the twin-island republic.
Speaking on the heels of Tobago’s successful hosting of the Regional Under-17 Championships, Bassarath said he would continue partnering with various stakeholders, in order to bring more tournaments to the country and make use of the great facilities there.
“In our particular sport of cricket, you have a number of good quality facilities, so much so that the TTCB has seen it fit to champion the cause of more cricket for Tobago,” Bassarath told a closing ceremony earlier this week.
The tournament was sponsored by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) and played under the auspices of the West Indies Cricket Board. It was the second year the tournament had been hosted in Tobago.
Earlier this year, T&T also hosted the Regional Super50, which is the WICB’s premier one-day competition, and will stage the tournament for the next two years in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism.
Bassarath said the TTCB intended to continue their collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, the Tourism Development Corporation and the THA, in an attempt to bring more cricket tournaments to Trinidad and Tobago.
