State Funeral for Sir Howard
FORMER Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke, who died on July 11, will be accorded a State Funeral, the Government announced on the weekend.
The State Funeral will take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1 George Headley Drive, Kingston on Friday, August 8, 2014 commencing at 10:00 am and interment will follow at the National Heroes Park, the Government said in a news release.
Sir Howard, who was 98, died in the Andrews Memorial Hospital in Kingston. Among his many achievements, he was an elected member of the West Indies Federal Parliament in 1958, and a member of the first Parliament of Independent Jamaica in 1962.
Sir Howard served as Governor-General of Jamaica from 1991-2006.
Details of the period of the State mourning, signing of the condolence book, and lying in State will be announced, the Government said.
