EUGENE, USA — History was created in the men’s high jump during yesterday’s second day of the 15th IAAF World Junior Championships after two Jamaicans, Christoff Bryan and Clayton Brown, qualified for tomorrow’s final here at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

It was the first time two men from Jamaica were qualifying for a global high jump final and Brown admitted he was surprised he made it that far as he did not do particularly well.

Bryan, who has a personal best of 2.23m and competing in his third IAAF championships, cleared 2.14m, the same as the top five jumpers in his group, while Brown, the Carifta Games Under-20 champion, only cleared 2.10m, but advanced as one of the best losers.

Bryan, who was third at the World Youth Championships last year after failing to make it to the finals at the World Juniors in Barcelona in 2012, said he felt good and his experience would be a factor in the final.

“I am feeling really good and confident, I know what to expect at these events now, so I am going out there to do my best,” he told the Observer.

Brown, who failed three times at 2.14m after clearing 2.05m and 2.10m on his first attempts, said he is struggling with an ankle problem, but will be ready for the final.
