Jamaica face Windward test in second round of U-15 tournament
Host Jamaica will brace for a stern test against the Windward Islands when the two face-off in the second round of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Under-15 tournament at Kensington Cricket Club today.
The Jamaicans, led by captain Raewin Senior, held their composure to defeat Barbados in their first-round game, and that effort will see them brimming with confidence going into this assignment.
However, the Windwards, who succumbed to Trinidad and Tobago, will be hoping to make amends, and coach Alton Crafton believes that his charges have the ability to get the required results.
In other games, Guyana and Barbados will lock horn at Melbourne Cricket Club in a game that promises to be electrifying and stroke filled, while
Trinidad and Tobago will battle the Leeward Islands at the Police cricket field at Elletson Road.
Guyana scored a dominant 113-run win against the Leewards, but will now face their traditional rivals who will be seeking to bounce back from their disappointing opener.
The Trinidadians opened their campaign on a winning note with a positive six-wicket win against the Windwards, and coach Glen Dwarika declared that they will be aiming to “retain the title of best fielding team”, which means they have no intention of giving away too many runs.
The same can’t be said about their opponents who had a dismal game against Guyana, giving away 47 extras, and crumbling during their run chase after they were given a blazing start by their opening batsmen.
The third round of the competition will be contested tomorrow, with Guyana battling Trinidad & Tobago; Barbados facing the Windward Islands, while Jamaica going up against the Leeward Islands.
The team with the highest number of points at the end of the five-round tournament will emerge champions. All games begin at 10:00 am.
