Paulette Vidal: 30 years in business and going strong
PAULETTE Vidal (PV) is a veteran entrepreneur in the town of Lucea, Hanover, who has been in the men’s and ladies’ apparel business for almost three decades.
Vidal, who described herself as an individual who “loves business and would venture into other types of business if the opportunity arises”, operates Paulette Fashion Diva Store in the town’s centre.
OBS WEST: Why did you decide to venture into this business?
PV: After leaving school I was employed in a store for quite some time. I later found out that it was a good business to get involved in. So, I later decided to open one for myself.
OBS WEST: Where did you get the start-up capital for the business?
PV: The funds came from my savings. Back then, it was not so difficult to start an apparel business. A little money could start one, and my saving was enough to do so.
OBS WEST: So far, are you satisfied with the support from customers?
PV: The support is good, although business is not to the fullest. But I give thanks because my business has grown tremendously over the years.
OBS WEST: What are some of the challenges that you are experiencing?
PV: Some of the challenges are high utility bills and rising cost of goods and other services.
OBS WEST: Are there any plans to expand the business?
PV: No. Not at this time, but if things get better, I definitely will.
OBS WEST: What is your advice to individuals who are thinking of starting a similar business?
PV: I would encourage them to get in it. It can be profitable, but it is hard work.
