Auto show to make tourist capital home

GIVEN the success of last weekend’s Wealth Auto Show held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James, organisers are planning to make it a calendar event.

The inaugural two-day event — which was held last Saturday and Sunday — saw hundreds of persons turning out to view the latest offerings from top brands including as Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Land Rover, Range Rover, VW, Honda, Toyota and Hyundai. As an added bonus, patrons also got the opportunity to test drive these models as well as have on-spot financing information from institutions including Sagicor and National Commercial Bank.

“I am satisfied with the turnout and reaction from patrons. I anticipated the event would go well, but this is beyond my expectations. Every dealer has sold a vehicle some as many as three,” Garth Walker, chairman of Creative Media and Events, parent company of the Wealth Magazine and event organisers, told Auto.

“I was confident that the show would do well, but a few persons kept saying Montego Bay is unpredictable. But from what I have seen, I’m declaring now that the Wealth Auto Show will now have a permanent home in Western Jamaica,” Walker continued.

The auto show came up for praises for its production quality and the wide range of vehicle offerings.

Among those singing praises was attorney-at-law Oneil Brown, who was elated that an event such as this made its way to Montego Bay.

“If only they could do it two or three times a year, because events like these really help to inform and educate the buying public,” said Brown.

A wealth of information was also on-hand for patrons as they moved freely from each display area with sales agents ready to discuss and answer queries.

Guardsman and King Alarm booths had information on vehicle tracking and security measures while Advantage General provided insurance information and financing options.

“We are satisfied with the number of patrons that came by our booth for information and we are confident that a number of them will yield business for us. We have some pretty solid leads to follow up on come next week,” said Adina Bryson, branch manager of Advantage General Insurance.

Auto dealers also expressed their satisfaction with the steady traffic to their booths and the feedback from patrons to the deals and vehicle options.

“For us, the show was good. We had four sales representatives present and they all picked up some good leads. It was a positive, and if the factors are in place again, we will be involved in another staging” said Kevin Murray, branch manager of Toyota Jamaica.
