Rotary Club of Negril, Richard Warren
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — NEWLY installed president of the Rotary Club of Negril, Richard Warren, says he plans to hold free eye-screening clinics for students in and around the Negril community during his term in office.
Arguing that a number of students in Negril are not doing well at reading, Warren said, the aim of the eye screenings is to determine the cause of the reading challenges and to assist in providing eyewear.
“Our plan is to make an eye test on as many children as possible as a means of detecting why is it that some kids are having reading challenges in our early childhood institutions and primary schools. Then we hope to get the donation from Rotary International to be able to purchase glasses to correct these kids that are affected by poor eyesight,” he explained.
Warren, who is also the manager of Moon Dance Cliff Hotel on the West End Road in Negril, was installed as president on Sunday during the Rotary Club of Negril 10th anniversary and installation of directors ceremony.
He added that during his term in office, he also plans to host a diabetes public education campaign and a drive to increase the club’s membership.
He also pointed out that the club will continue to offer programmes he inherited, such as the drive to upgrade schools in the Negril community and the continuation of support to some 70 students through the provision of taxi-fares and lunches.
