Commendable improvement in administration at CCJ

Dear Editor,

We have been involved in no less than 20 appeals and special leave applications heard by the CCJ over the past six years and wish to commend a noticeable and significant improvement in the administration of the court’s registry.

Within the past two weeks or so we have received orders in three appeals (CV002, CV003 and CV 004 of 2013), which were all outstanding for over a year, and an order of the Court in CV001 of 2014 which had been made since the April 14, 2014 but not communicated to the attorneys in the matter. We also promptly received the order of court made in CV012 of 2013 within a few days of the delivery of judgement. Our client was able to act upon the said order and is already enjoying the fruits of it. We can now confidently expect that other pending matters with the Registrar, such as taxation proceedings, will be disposed of with like efficiency.

We have had not experienced this sort of efficiency in the past. The recently improved efficiency in the Registrar’s Office has brought tremendous satisfaction and obvious benefits to our clients and us. The CCJ has in several of its written decisions condemned delays in the judicial system in countries from which it entertains appeals. It is only right that when faced with delays within its own structure that the CCJ takes steps to ensure that the interest of justice is not defeated by delays caused by administrative inefficiencies. We are supportive of the court’s continued efforts to improve its administrative efficiency and welcome the changes that have led to greater efficiency. There is certainly no lack of concern by the Court for its administration.
