THE vice-chairman of the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) Carvel Stewart says he is ready for the top job if Edward Seaga resigns in his role as chairman.

It is reported that Seaga, a former prime minister of Jamaica, is on the verge of stepping aside from the PLCA, mere days after announcing that the club he presides over, Tivoli Gardens FC, will be departing from Premier League football for the 2014-15 campaign.

Stewart, the chairman of Habour View FC, said he will answer the call if Seaga folds his hands at Tuesday’s meeting of the PLCA executive.

“Yes, I’m willing to (step up),” he told the Sunday Observer.

“We are having our meeting on Tuesday and at that time we’ll be hearing from the chairman because he will be chairing the meeting.”

Stewart lauded the work that Seaga has put into sports and football over the decades and noted his influence as chairman of both the PLCA and the Professional Football Association of Jamaica (PFAJ).

“We hope the matter will be resolved in that respect. He has given yeoman effort and support to the football and to the PLCA, in particular. If he does go we are going to miss him, his participation, his input and his influence.

“And that could be extended to Tivoli because he has been the backbone of sports and culture in Tivoli. We are regretting that we could be losing the major sets of vertebrae so hopefully there is some redemption available,” he said.
