New York to honour McNab, Walsh

On Sunday, August 31, two Jamaican sporting stalwarts — Ali McNab and Ambassador Courtney Walsh — will be presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 16th Annual NY Celebrity Soccer Match slated to be held at the Joe Fosina Field, New Rochelle, New York.

According to promoter of the event Douglas ‘DJ Dougie’ Laughman, “these two gentlemen are international icons who over the years have represented themselves and their country well”.

“I think it is only fitting that we here in the Diaspora honour them for the longstanding contribution to Jamaican sports,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Acknowledging that there are others who will be recognised in years to come, Laughman said he has had a long admiration for how McNab and Walsh have conducted themselves both on and off the field — Walsh for his prowess in cricket and McNab for his skills on the football field, as a broadcaster and later as

a coach.

Walsh, who was named as the “Ambassador at Large” for the event will also be taking the field to pit his skills against other

Jamaican celebrities, including minister Damian Crawford, Mad Cobra, Spragga Benz, Macka Diamond, Mr Vegas, singer Sophia Brown as well as other celebrities.

At half-time, the crowd which is expected to number over 10,000 strong, will be entertained with performances by some of the reggae acts confirmed for the soccerfest. The event will be hosted by Johnny Daley.
