Seeing red at the top
WITH only one meet left to go in the circuit racing season, Total Team Summerbell (TSR) holds the top three spots in the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) drivers’ championship chase, led by Andre Anderson with 94 points.
The awards ceremony for the Jamaica Automobile Association/Total Lubricants Emancipation of Speed 2014 race meet will take place this evening at the Montego Bay Audi Showroom, starting at 7:00 pm.
Anderson, who crashed out on the August meet after his brakes failed seven laps into the day’s final race, is bullish about his chances.
“Right now, I’m focused on repair and testing to make sure the car is reliable for the next meet. Should it be, I see no reason why I won’t retain the driver’s title,” he told Auto.
Anderson doesn’t see any other competitor to worry about.
“It’s every drivers dream to win a championship, but to win two and back-to-back is a mark of excellence,” Anderson added.
In second is teammate Kyle Gregg with eighty points and David Summerbell Jr in third on 76 points.
“I never expected to be there since we had an engine failure in the second race meet of the year,” Gregg said.
He has also thrown his support behind Anderson.
“Andre is a teammate so I wouldn’t mind if he wins it. My main focus is to win Modified Production Class two for the sixth year in a row,” he said.
Kishore Williams, 72 points, and Sebastien Rae with 68 points round out the top five in the driver’s title chase.
For the meet, it was once again TSR teammates sharing top honours as both Summerbell Jr and Gregg tied with 32 points for Meet Champion. David Bell was the top motorcycle rider with 20 points.
