“THE first thing I saw from ATL were the uniformed technicians and their trademark service vans. I admired them so much, and I said to myself, ‘That’s where I need to be’,” explained ATL’s Nicola Scott.

Fast-forward 14 years and Scott still radiates eagerness and enthusiasm, making every day reminiscent of that Monday many years ago when she first set foot through ATL’s doorways.

A true team leader, ‘Nicky’, as she is affectionately called by everyone, was on the receiving end of praise and accolades on August 9 after being named ATL’s 2013 Team Member of the Year.

“Nicky is Miss Can-do. She embodies the true spirit of ‘unbeatable’ and never, ever allows anything to get the better of her. Her work ethic, resilience and dedication are truly remarkable. She is so upbeat and positive that working with her is an absolute delight,” said Scott’s immediate manager, Ronie Miller-Brown, head of sales.

Hired as a customer service representative in June 2000, Scott’s drive and commitment earned her quick and successive promotions through the years, including her 2013 appointment to the role of sales supervisor.

Expanding on her new portfolio at the start of 2013, Scott played an integral role in the launch of the ATL Unbeatable credit programme. She headed ATL’s first mobile team and together they went on an intense all-island promotional tour to spread the word on ATL’s new offerings. Scott and the team trekked for weeks across the island signing up customers and closing sales, ensuring all transactions were honoured and deliveries completed. Her overwhelming dedication to the project was further revealed with the design and creation of her own ATL Unbeatable credit collateral, an idea which was supported and then instituted by management.

“I’ve had the most amazing opportunity to meet and mingle with some incredible people across the length and breadth of Jamaica but no matter what post I’ve worked in this company, I’ve retained that important element of interaction. I love interacting with our customers — making them smile and making them happy is the best part of what I do,” said Scott.

Her love for making others happy is also well reflected in her overwhelming dedication to external community and volunteer activities, but most importantly, her dedication to the core team.

“Nicky is one of those persons I don’t think twice about when we are doing activities, whether for our internal family or the external community because it’s a given she will be there,” said Tonya Russell, ATL’s public relations officer.

“She is such an awesome team player with a profound love for her team. In fact, I remember when we were just launching the Unbeatable campaign and we were getting staff reactions to the new slogan, Nicky moved us to tears before shedding a few herself on how much her co-workers and customers had become like family to her over the years. She expressed that it was this familial bond that made the ATL Group different from its competitors and truly unbeatable.”

Committed and passionate about her team, Scott said she was left truly humbled and honoured after being selected by her peers as the 2013 Team Member of the Year.

“We all work hard and put in some long hours together and I believe no one is greater than a team on a mission. But to be recognised by my peers in this capacity is an awesome feeling. I am truly honoured that they chose me to be the ATL ambassador and I am very passionate about what I do. Our chairman always tells us to ‘exceed expectations’. Knowing that I have my company behind me and pushing me to be great, I am driven always to do my best,” she said.
