Under The Dryer: GET THE LOOK

Film producer, director, editor, singer and songwriter Christina Benjamin is creating a buzz in the city with her new look.

Naturally, your Under The Dryer team sought directions to the salon responsible for the smashing visual effect. Multi-award-winning spa Adam & Eve, who created the look, shows how to achieve it.

Here’s how…

Christina Benjamin came in for a sleek new look. First, a consultation was done. Benjamin expressed that she did not want the regular tiger-looking highlights but another something to pop her already retro- styled look which had a medium-dark brown finish. The spa’s experienced stylist listened attentively and came up with the brown-on-blonde finish — a perfect style and colour change for Christina.

Karelle sectioned the hair in four and then foiled the top and bottom layers using the slicing technique to achieve the base colour; she then added the mixture of volume 40 and white, leaving it on for 30 minutes for the colour to penetrate under the dryer.

Checks were done to ensure that the colour had been processed, after which her hair was shampooed with Affirm Moisture Color shampoo. Karelle then towel-dried the hair to remove the excess moisture before applying L’Oreal’s golden blonde to the ends to achieve the desired look of brown on blonde.

A Redken leave-in smooth-down butter treatment was massaged into the hair and allowed to penetrate the hair shaft. The hair was then styled by adding loose curls to emphasise the exotic brown-on-blonde effect.

She’s now sporting a fab do and amazing highlights that complement her innate qualities.

Regular treatments are recommended, in order to maintain this style and to avoid breakage.

Feel free to visit Adam and Eve Day Spa and Salon for a consultation with one of the hairstylists.

Here’s how to get the look, which was by the way executed by the multi-talented Benjamin.

The look places emphasis on the mouth, which is basically a dark lip. Benjamin used a red Revlon colourstay lipstick and then applied a dark purple lipstick over it. To further darken, mattify and add longevity, a dark eyeliner was used. Eye make-up was kept very simple but the brow line was emphasised.

“I used a dark-brown eyebrow pencil to line the eyebrows and make them more pronounced. The eye make-up was basically shades of gold and beige (darker on the outside, lighter on the inner corner) with a cateye liquid liner and a half set of lashes added to the outer corners for subtle drama.”
