My first day
FOR the older teens who are off to college, the first day of high school seems like ages ago. And the remember-whens are sure to pass through many lips in days to come. Every year a new crop of students face the unknown — the first day of high school. What to expect; what are the right moves to make; who should they talk to on the first day of school?
Well, we can’t answer all of those questions, but six first-formers will get some good advice from Digicel managers and brand ambassadors on how to survive high school. Here are the first three:
Stephen Priestley, senior operations manager
First former: K’Lah Whylie
Attended: Half-Way-Tree Primary School
Will be attending: Merl Grove High School
Stephen’s advice on how to survive high school: High school is going to be fun! K’Lah seems to enjoy being on her phone so she should download apps that will help her in her studies such as, ‘Pocket Mathematics’ and ‘Spark Notes’. Of course, you can download a cool game to enjoy during your down time like ‘Mountain’. Best of all Digicel has data plans as low as $100, which is perfect for a student.
Agent MK, Ms Kitty, brand ambassador
First former: Jordon Stern
Attended: McAuley Primary School
Will be attending: Old Harbour High School
Agent MK’s advice on how to survive high school: Continue to be the best that you can be. Do your homework and listen to your teachers, parents and just believe in yourself. Understand that discipline is very important, sacrifice is very important. You work hard and you play hard; you persist until you succeed. Never give up — you may not get it right the first time, but the most important thing is to always keep trying.
Trisha Williams-Singh, senior corporate relations manager
First former: Rojay Elliott
Attended: Duhaney Park Primary School
Will be attending: Excelsior High School
Trisha’s advice on how to survive high school: Use high school as your big playground to achieve what you want to achieve. A lot of people are going to say to you — work hard, study — yes, that’s great but when you get to high school, a big part of it is socialising and meeting new persons. As I always say high school is the best years of your school life. It’s at high school that you will meet some of your best friends for life!
