Sports Illustrated.com publishes Observer Ice Hockey story
The Jamaica Observer’s exclusive story entitled “Jamaica Building Olympic Ice Hockey Team” has made the news on Sports Illustrated.com.
“Jamaica is looking to expand their Winter Olympic presence by putting together a national ice hockey team,” reported Sports Illustrated, yesterday, in a section called Extra Mustard.
“The tropical island country is already famously home to a bobsled team, but they are hoping to put together a team of players of Jamaican descent in hockey as well, with the search being led by Graeme Townsend, the first Jamaican-born player in the National Hockey League (NHL),” Sports Illustrated continued.
“The team’s first tryouts will take place in Ontario, Canada, and the team is hoping to begin playing exhibition games by next year, while the nation’s newly minted Jamaican Olympic Ice Hockey Federation begins the process of building an ice rink in the country, according to the Jamaica Observer,” it added.
In 1988 at the Calgary Winter Olympics in Canada, Jamaica created history by entering a bobsled team to the competition prompting a popular movie named Cool Runnings.
