Spurs surge ahead of rivals
After two rounds of matches, Tottenham Hotspur lead the table after securing their second win from as many matches. Their resounding 4-0 win against newly-promoted Queens Park Rangers was sealed by a reinvigorated Nacer Chadli (2), young Eric Dier and Emmanuel Adebayor.
The best game this weekend happened at Goodison Park as Everton battled Arsenal to a 2-2 draw. Everton deservedly had the lead at the break through a Seamus Coleman far post header while Steven Naismith scored a controversial goal. Arsenal fought back valiantly through Aaron Ramsey but Olivier Giroud sealed the comeback with a firm header, 30 seconds from time.
Chelsea have now won back to back games against promoted teams after defeating Burnley away last Monday and Leicester City at home on Saturday. After a goalless first half, the Blues romped to a 2-0 victory in the second thanks to new signing Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.

Comfortable start for Barca
Despite Javier Mascherano’s first half ejection, Barcelona calmly negotiated Elche with a 3-0 win at Camp Nou. Lionel Messi struck either side of the break which sandwiched Munir El Haddadi’s debut goal. The goals gave Luis Enrique his first league win at the helm, a performance he would be proud of.
Valencia had to fight back to secure a 1-1 draw at Sevilla in their La Liga opener. An even opening aside, Sevilla led through Alex Vidal just before half time. Substitute Rodrigo de Paul picked up a straight red card but Lucas Orban equalized with only two minutes left. Meanwhile, our pick for relegation — Eibar — upset Real Sociedad 1-0 on Sunday.

Dortmund fall to shock defeat
Nine seconds into Borrusia Dortmund’s first home match of the season, Karim Bellarabi scored for Bayer Leverkusen. It was the quickest goal in Bundesliga history and the writing was on the wall. Bellarabi later set up Stefan Kiessling in injury time to seal victory over the depleted Dortmund.
Bayern Munich began their title defence successfully with a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg at home. Arjen Robben scored what turned out to be the winner even before Ivica Olic’s superb 20-yard effort for Wolfsburg.
Hannover secured a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Schalke at home on Saturday. Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored the first goal of the game but things changed quickly when Hannover scored twice in three minutes. Edgar Prib and Joselu made it happen with just 20 minutes left.
