D-Day for Johann Weatherly
JOHANN Weatherly will know today whether his trial stint with American Major League Soccer (MLS) team LA Galaxy will be extended, or he will return home. The Montego Bay-based Munro College student is the only Jamaican in the current crop of players invited to the weeklong camp.
The best of the lot could be invited to stay an additional week.
After Monday’s first day, young Weatherly said he thought he had done enough to impress the coaches: “Based on how I performed yesterday in training the coaches liked what they saw”, he told the Jamaica Observer West.
The player, who was one of the top scorers for Munro College last year, and will be a big part of their plans in the upcoming season, says the try-out with one of North America’s top professional clubs was his first step towards fulfilling a dream.
“Been invited by one of the top clubs in the United States MLS means the world to me right now. It is a chance for me to fulfil my dream, which is to play professional soccer,” he said.
Weatherly was part of the Montego Bay United Under-18 team that participated in a summer competition in Canada.
