Turn Me Loose wins Terremoto Trophy
TURN Me Loose produced another notable performance and brushed aside a good field to win the annual renewal of the Terremoto Trophy at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Ridden by the ‘Gate Master’ Percival Williams for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny, Turn Me Loose, a two-year-old chestnut colt by Western Classic-Devil Woman by Market Rally obliged as the 1-9 favourite in a small field of six runners going over the quick dash of 1,000 metres round.
As expected, Turn Me Loose got off to his usual fast start, but was quickly joined by Forest Flame, the mount of Romario Saunders at the half-mile.
Turning for home on the inside, Williams then urged his mount and Turn Me Loose responded well and drew away from the field to win by two-and-a-half lengths and registered his second consecutive victory from as many starts.
Forest Flame held on for second ahead of Love Train (Dane Nelson up) with Lady Danza (Orlando Foster up) completing the frame.
Owned by Balkrishen Sagan-Maraj, Turn Me Loose ran the distance in a decent 1:00:1 minutes, setting splits of 23:0 and 46:3 seconds.
“He (Turn Me Loose) broke fast as usual but surprisingly Forest Flame was alongside me at the four-furlong point, but I just kept him relaxed and asked him to run the last two furlongs. I thought he would have run away with race, but obviously that was not so, but it was a good win,” Williams said in the winners’ enclosure.
Turn Me Loose was the first of two winners for Williams with the other being Justice Rhoodal for trainer Wilfred Chin in the fifth race over 1,000 metres straight.
Meanwhile, the Ray Phillips-trained Our Creation came with a storming run in the last two furlongs to win the co-feature, the Aston Commock Memorial Trophy for native-bred four-year-old and upwards non-winners of four races over 1,700 metres.
Ridden by apprentice Sadiki Blake, Our Creation (He’stherealthing-Ibelieveitsours by Our Emblem) was a length in front of the 4-5 favourite Mr Luval (Dick Cardenas up) and Go Go Train (Richard Mitchell aboard) another six lengths adrift in third. The winning time was 1:46:3 minutes.
“It was a fairly easy race as I knew my horse would get the trip. I just held him off the pace and asked him for everything up the lane and eventually we won the race,” apprentice Blake said.
In a bold, front-running effort, the Patrick Chang-trained Willie Goldsmith dismantled an Overnight Allowance field going over 1,300 metres.
Ridden by O’Brien White for owner WB Racing Willie Goldsmith passed the winning post an easy eight-length winner over Hover Craft (Shamaree Muir astride) and Piscean Rocket (Dane Nelson in the saddle) in a blistering 1:17:2 minutes.
