MP urges patience at Braes River Primary over pit latrines
KINGSTON, Jamaica – While some students roll out to improved facilities at the start of the new school year, those at the Brae’s River Primary School in St Elizabeth will return to pit latrines despite promises of modern bathroom facilities.
North Eastern St Elizabeth Member of Parliament, Raymond Pryce urged students, parents and teachers to be patient as plans are in place to start the work soon following a project approval earlier this year.
“We have received written confirmation that the project which was approved earlier in the year, and initially delayed because of Fiscal Constraints will now get going shortly,” Pryce said in statement from the People’s National Party (PNP).
“I have also spoken with the Minister of Education who again confirmed that the project will proceed before the close of the Calendar Year.”
Since January 2012 with the assistance of the Constituency Development Fund, the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), the CHASE Fund and the Ministry of Education, similar projects have been completed at the Leeds Primary, Mount Osbourne Primary Schools and works are nearing completion at the Roses Valley Primary School in the Constituency.
