Spencer, Morgan for IAAF Continental Cup
HAVING won her first global gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, last month, 400m hurdles runner Kaliese Spencer will now set her sights on winning the IAAF Continental Cup title in Marrakesh, Morocco, later this month.
The event is making a return to the track and field calendar for the first time after a four-year absence and the athletes will compete for continental teams — Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific.
Spencer, who also won her fourth IAAF Diamond League trophy this season, is one of two Jamaicans named. Jason Morgan is the first Jamaican male discus thrower invited to the competition.
A number of other Jamaicans could also be added later.
Spencer has dominated the 400m hurdles event this season with six of the top eight performances, including a world-leading 53.41 seconds when she won the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Senior title in June.
Morgan won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games — his first major medal and will create a first for Jamaican male discus throwers when he lines up on the second day of the competition.
