LIME Foundation unearths 60 web designers
Continuing its fine tradition of unearthing talented Web designers, the LIME Foundation trained another 60 young Jamaicans to build impressive websites by the close of its Web Design Summer Programme in late August.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, the programme, an introductory course in Web page design, catered to students between the ages of 13 to 21. They were taught the basics of building a website and were then tasked with developing one as part of their final assessment.
The students who hailed mainly from underserved communities were able to create eye-catching websites for marketing and sale of various products and services in different languages, much to the admiration of LIME Foundation Executive Chairman Errol Miller.
He beamed: “The high level of creativity displayed by these young talent is a shining example of how we can unleash the greatness within all of us, especially when others take the time, energy and dedication to nurture it. Once again, the Web Design Summer Programme has delivered and I want to thank the hard-working teachers and committed students for another successful year.”
Since its inception the programme would have trained over 300 young people in the art of Web design; one of whom is Anthony Bryan who went on to further his studies in data operations and returns every year to share his knowledge with students.
In addition to the Web design aspect of computer training, the foundation, in July, tutored 20 persons from Breezy Castle and surrounding communities in downtown Kingston, all of whom developed basic computing and online learning skills.
