Competitive field for Knutsford Park Cup
THIS year’s edition of the Knutsford Park Cup drew a fairly competitive field of 10 headed by recent winner, Hailey’s Comet, the well prepared Locked and Loaded, the consistent knocking Dagga Dagga Links and Israelite.
The Knutsford Park Cup is set among Restricted Allowance II native-bred three-year-olds (NW2), and going 1,200 metres will highlight a truncated nine-race midweek card at Caymanas Park today.
Despite the shortened programme, racing is expected to be just as keen and lively with the
events sporting races to accommodate a wall of in-formed runners who are well- equipped to perform better over sprint as against distance.
The day’s Knutsford Park Cup highlighters are scheduled to go to post at approximately 4:50 pm, with first post at 1:15 pm.
Hailey’s Comet, a three-year-old bay filly by Image Maker out of Regina Royale who opened her winning career in industrious fashion on the round course on August 23, looks set to continue her useful form after her six-length demolition job. This was after failing narrowly three weeks earlier to go over today’s distance.
Since shedding the maiden tag, trainer Dwight Chen has stepped up Hailey’s Comet in her exercise and another good effort is anticipated.
Hailey’s Comet will come in at a handy 51.5kg for in-form lightweight jockey Percy Williams to face the very experienced Locked And Loaded who shed the maiden tag as a three-year-old on New Year’s Day.
Dagga Dagga Links, a model of consistency, needs to be alert at the start to go close with the experienced handling of Omar Walker in the irons.
Champion and leading jockey Dane Nelson, who logged a five-timer on Saturday, may just have his hands full getting the Richard Azan-trained Israelite across the finishing line here.
