‘Kreeching’ to the top
UP to four months ago, Andrew ‘The Kreecha’ Paddyfoot was virtually unknown in dancehall circles. However, a chance meeting with deejay Bling Dawg changed all that.
“People now recognise me in the streets. I can’t even beg a man a dollar anymore, because everyone now thinks I am rich, so they are the ones asking,” the 31-year-old said between laughter.
In May, Bling Dawg featured Paddyfoot on the single Kreech Dance. Produced by Matthew ‘Esco’ Thompson, the track — based on Paddyfoot’s dance moves — has been doing the rounds.
Paddyfoot said he had no idea his creation would have generated that much attention.
“I was no dancer. I just love attending dance sessions and for years the ‘Kreech’ was my signature move. Some people used to laugh when they saw me doing it, but it didn’t matter,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
He said Bling Dawg saw him doing the moves and approached him.
“A few days later, he introduced me to a riddim and we recorded the song that same day,” he said.
Paddyfoot believes the move will remain fresh in the dancehall for a long while, as he recently recorded another single with Canadian artiste Sample Ting about The Kreech.
Born in the tough inner city community of Wilton Gardens, also known as Rema, Paddyfoot currently resides in Rockfort, St Andrew.
He said he is currently working on another collaboration with Bling Dawg.
