Dottin a new and improved player, says Moseley
KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC) — Assistant coach Ezra Moseley believes Deandra Dottin’s new measured approach is a reflection of her recent maturity as a player and says this will be a big boost to the West Indies Women’s team.
He was speaking against the backdrop of Dottin’s outstanding all-round performance in the second Twenty20 International against New Zealand on Thursday which spurred West Indies to a seven-wicket victory at Arnos Vale here.
Dottin took three for nine from her four overs of medium pace to restrict the New Zealanders to 101 for five off their 20 overs, before stroking a measured unbeaten 40 from 42 balls to see her side home with three overs remaining.
“She batted very well and deserved the Player-of-the-Match. We are seeing a different Deandra Dottin,” said Moseley, a former Test seamer.
“She is maturing as a cricketer. She’s not that belligerent batter that we knew from before, but she’s looking good, picking her spots, choosing her shot selection well and this is something that will augur well for West Indies in the future.”
Dottin looked a different player from the start of the series, abandoning her all-out attacking style in favour of a controlled approach. She was no less effective, hammering 60 off 77 balls in the first One-Day International and following up with a superb 82 from 99 deliveries, as West Indies Women swept the four-match series.
West Indies Women then lost the opening T20I but hit back to level the series, and Moseley hopes they can now go on to wrap up the series, which was scheduled to end yesterday.
“It certainly was a good win for us after losing the first game. At the start of the game we didn’t bowl to plan and the New Zealanders got off to a very good start. They came back towards the end and bowled quite well and restricted the New Zealanders,” Moseley said.
