Kingston Bookshop clip Restaurants of Jamaica to capture 5-a-side KO title
KINGSTON Bookshop won the Robert Douet Memorial Trophy when they clipped Restaurants of Jamaica 1-0 on Thursday in the final of the 2014 Cable Pro Data Services-sponsored Business House Five-A-Side football competition at the NWC playing field, Mona.
In a game dominated by Kingston Bookshop, poor shooting by Barrington Pryce, Danielo Brown, Donovan McCurdy, Nicholas Scott and also excellent goalkeeping by Shawn Tulloch prevented them from scoring. They got the all-important goal in the 22nd minute when Nicholas Scott’s defence-splitting pass to Donovan McCurdy was tapped into the goal.
Division two team, Restaurants of Jamaica were also denied from scoring as Kevin Nelson, Vivjay Dawkins and Ricardo Grant failed to get by goalkeeper Kishawn White on both occasions.
Kingston Bookshop collected $30,000, while Restaurants of Jamaica received $15,000 for placing second.
Meanwhile, the curtains come down on the Western Sports-sponsored Business House Five-A-Side football competition today at the NWC playing field, when Kingston Bookshop and Urban Development Corporation (UDC) meet in the Division One final at 3:30 pm, while in the curtain-raiser at 2:30 pm, Seprod play JP Tropical Foods in the Division Two final.
The Luton Shelton Senior-coached Seprod Limited are expecting a close match with JP Tropical Foods. Both teams met once in the season and the game ended 0-0. Shelton Snr will look to Rushado Clarke, Jermaine Smith, Rushawan Rowe, Ian Davis, Andre Allen and Sheldon Sharpe to win their first Division Two title, while the Richard James-coached JP Tropical Foods, who travel from St Mary to play each week in the competition, are expecting to be victorious, so that their return trip will be a happy one.
James will be looking to Hillelide Dean, Michael Hinds, Ricardo Davis, Michael Hinds, Howard Malcolm and Tyronne Griffiths for victory.
Undefeated, Kingston Bookshop will be going for their second title in two days. Coach Steadman Fuller Junior will look to goalkeeper Roybert Clarke, along with Wayne Christie, Donovan McCurdy, Nicholas Scott, Kevron Reid and Kemar Woodley to cap an excellent season.
They have defeated UDC twice this season — 3-1 and 2-0 — and are favourites to win. The Michael Francis-coached UDC started slowly, but since the quarter-final round, they are a difference team and have knocked out former champions Scotiabank A and B, as well as Spanish Grain Store.
Francis will look to outstanding goalkeeper David Jemison, along with Jermaine Williamson, Obrian Mottan, Leon Brown, Kirk Powell, Orett Warren and Samora Gordon to win their first Division One title.
The presentation ceremony will follow at 5:00 pm with guest speaker being KSAFA President Ambassador Stewart Stephenson.
