MELBOURNE CC recorded a third straight win in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) All-Island 50 overs competition after yesterday’s six-run defeat of Lucas CC via the Duckworth & Lewis method in the rescheduled Zone D encounter at the Nelson Oval.

Winning the toss and batting first in the third-round encounter, Melbourne were bowled out for 171.

But hosts Lucas set a winning target of 168 runs off 45 overs after rain interrupted play in the afternoon, but could not overhaul that modest total and slumped to 161-8.

Melbourne CC moved to 12 points with the win, while Lucas remain at the foot of the zone without a point.

In the Melbourne innings, Fabian Allen top scored with 50, while all-rounder Yannic Elliott struck 44. Captain Jon-Ross Campbell was dismissed without getting off the mark.

The Lucas leg-spinner Patrick Dixon led the way with 4-33 from 10 overs, while pacers Markon Guy and Dwayne Guthrie both bowled five overs to end with 2-33 and 2-32, respectively.

In Lucas’ reply, Wayne Gayle hit 36 and Orande Pearson supported with 20. National wrist spinner Damion Jacobs grabbed 3-20 off nine overs for Melbourne.

The competition continues today with 10 matches across all four zones.

At the end of the preliminary stage, the top two teams from each zone will advance to the quarter-finals slated for October 18.

The semi-finals are scheduled a week later on October 25, while the championship game is set for November 1.
