A new ‘FRANCHIZZE’ in music
“I want to bring the versatility I think our music lacks sometime and bridge the gap that stops some artistes from crossing over mainstream”.
Kemar Brown, the singer-songwriter, who goes by the stage name Franchizze, is a promising new prospect on the music scene.
He hails from Ocho Rios, St Ann where he attended York Castle High School where his love for music caused him to be a part of the school choir there.
At school, he went by a couple aliases — Mr Brown, Kingman and Tigger — but decided that he had to work on a name for the biz.
“When I decided to take music seriously, none of those names fit the image I was trying to portray,” he explained.
After some thought he titled his musical persona as Franchizze, a subsidiary of something bigger…, he said.
The artiste signed with Rum House Records in August 2013 and released his first official single High, done in collaboration with Andrew Myrie AKA ‘Anju Blaxx’ on the 4-Play Riddim by Uptempo International Music (UIM Records). The rookie kept pace on the riddim, which hosted the likes of Bugle, Blak Diamon and Tifa.
In August 2014, Franchizze made some more strides in the music business, receiving international attention with the music video premiere of his single, Nuh Pastry on BET’s 106 & Park. It received rave reactions from co-host Bow Wow along with the studio audience.
“I was so excited, nervous and wanted to bawl, out of joy, of course. It was just a host of emotions piled up together. I always knew and believed in my talent. It was surprising, but I expected it — just not so soon,” Franchizze said.
The single is featured on UIM Record’s ‘Love TriAngle’ Riddim and the video shot by his Bermuda based label Rum House Records. The young artiste held his own on this riddim, which also features Vybz Kartel, Bugle, Lady Saw, and Popcaan, among others.
He has a new extended play (EP) recording set to be released sometime in November with his latest single, Feel Good.
Unlike Nuh Pastry, it has a more up-tempo vibe, but still maintains the control Franchizze has grown to master.
For Franchizze, dancehall is just one of the many genres he covers. He also explores pop, R&B and reggae. His new EP will carry approximately seven singles that will explore these genres. It promises to be well delivered and produced. Listen out and be sure to invest in Franchizze as he blazes a trail in the music industry.
