Cardenas extends lead to four in jockey’s championship
PANAMANIAN Dick Cardenas made his intentions clear when he rode three winners to extend his lead to four wins over two-time defending champion Dane Nelson in the race for the jockey’s championship at Caymanas Park over last weekend’s Saturday – Sunday race meetings.
Cardenas is now on 80 wins while Nelson is just behind on 76 with three months to go in the race.
On Saturday, Cardenas increased his lead to two winners when he steered the Edward Hamilton-trained Tera Marique to victory beating Sundown (Dane Nelson) by a short head going over 1,000 metres straight. Nelson was winless on the 10-race programe.
On day two, Cardenas continued to pile up the winners by booting home a double, Dinner By Seven and Golden Bullet. Again Nelson was winless.
