Franfield to go one better
The Richard Azan-trained Franfield hopes to make amends for a slight hiccup on last when he takes on 10 rivals in a competitive Overnight Allowance call at Caymanas Park today.
The Monica Todd Memorial Cup is the lone trophy race on the 10-race card, but the extended sprint event going 1,600 metres among Overnight Allowance three-year-olds and upward possesses all the ingredients to be the highlight of the day’s proceedings.
The Overnight Allowance call set to got to post at approximately 4:25 pm with first post at 12:15 pm, has attracted a very capable field of 11 runners going 1,600 metres, and despite the Dane Nelson-ridden Franfield as the firm choice, there is enough pace and staying power in the event to test his true worth.
He is fairly well bred for the distance that he has already won twice for the season.
Nonetheless, Royal Vibes, with the title chasing Dick Cardenas up for champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta, is one who will stay the distance comfortably after just finishing bottom of the frame going 400 metres farther on last.
The four-year-old gelded son of Royal Minister has already won over the distance, but that was against claimers. Since that victory he has stepped back up in class but always seems to find one better. Franfield was beaten by his more accomplished stablemate Hover Croft over the shorter distance on last in a smart time.
However, with the distance increased and nothing as dynamic as Hover Craft present, it greatly enhances the chance of Franfield to go one better.
