Hydel Prep hunt 4th straight win in Alberga Cup
DEFENDING champions Hydel Prep will go in search of their fourth consecutive win when they take on Bright Beginnings as the 2014 Jamaica Independent Schools’ Association (JISA)/Tastee Limited Alberga Cup Prep football competition continues today at the Caymanas playing field starting at 2:30 pm.
So far the Junior Bryan-coached Hydel aggregation has won three matches from three starts, crushing One Way Prep 12-0; Glenmuir Prep 7-0, and Emmanuel Christian Academy, 4-0.
Hydel have nine points from three games behind Zone Four leaders Stella Maris Prep with 10 points but from four outings. Stella Maris are down to play St Andrew Prep at Emmanuel’s playing field, starting at 2:15 pm. Another team in the zone with nine points from three starts is St Andrew Prep.
Meanwhile, last year’s beaten finalist Vaz, who lost to Hydel, are jointly at the top of the standings in Zone One with 12 points from four games, along with Hillel Academy. Both teams will be in the feature match for sole leadership at the American International School of Kingston (AISK) playing field beginning at 1:30 pm.
Zone Two leader Lannaman’s Prep, who captured the Henriques Cup knockout competition, are on top with 12 points from four games and meet Sts Peter and Paul today at Sts Peter and Paul at 3:00 pm.
In joint second place are Wolmer’s and Sts Peter and Paul with nine points each from four matches. Wolmer’s will take on Praise Tabernacle Christian Academy at Sts Peter and Paul at 1:30 pm.
Quest Prep, losers to Lannaman’s in the Henriques KO final last year, lead Zone Three with six points after playing only two games. They will play Kingsway at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Bowl at 1:00 pm, while second-placed team Our Lady of the Angels, with five points from three outings, play Liberty Academy Prep at Our Lady of the Angels at 3:00 pm.
Mona Prep lead Zone Five with nine points from three games and will face Alvernia Prep at Buttercup Park, while second-placed Ardenne with nine points go up against St Thomas More Prep at 1:30 pm at Glenmuir playing field.
Meanwhile, the teams are not only playing to advance to the quarter-finals round of the Alberga Cup, but also to qualify to play in the Henriques Cup knockout competition where the top teams from each zone will advance.
