Day & Night Bridal Make-up
+ Sweet Bridesmaid
Make-up artist and Tonez Beau Á Trois owner Tonij Phillips gave us the play-by-play for three different wedding styles: a daytime wedding ceremony, an evening reception, and a sweet bridesmaid look.
We share tips, product information and more.
Daytime Wedding Ceremony Look

Model: Cosmetologist Curline Henry
The daytime wedding ceremony look focuses on enhancing the natural beauty of the bride.
Tonij’s Tip -> If you have oily skin, mix less than a pea size amount of foundation with your primer.
Face:
_DSC0090.JPG
1 After mixing your foundation and primer, apply to the four major problem areas: forehead, cheeks, under the eyes and the chin. Spread the foundation outwards using a foundation brush.
Tonij’s Tip -> Applying foundation to these four areas prevents you looking greasy or too heavily made-up.
2 Highlight: Apply a foundation or concealer that is two to three shades lighter than your foundation shade. Apply underneath the eyes, the centre of the nose bridge leading up to the forehead and under the cheekbones (in-between cheekbone and jaw line) — using a foundation brush.
3 Contour: Apply a concealer or foundation two to three shades darker than your foundation shade. Using a foundation or concealer brush, line the hairline, apply to the cheekbones, to the lower jaw line and the edges of the nasal bride. Blend in using a blending or stippling brush, ensuring no lines of demarcation are left.
Tonij’s Tip -> Use a foundation brush in lieu of a make-up sponge, as these tend to soak up most of the product.

4 Apply Diva Blush by CAO Cosmetics on the cheekbones. Apply blush towards the temples in the form of a C.
5 On the highest point of your cheekbone (nearest the eye), apply a bronzer or gold shadow. This gives a high-definition finish to the face.
Eyes:

1 Fill in the brows using a dark or light brown pencil.

cosmo.jpg
2 Start by creating a “V” at the outer corner of the eye with a plum eyeshadow like Cosmo by CAO Cosmetics. This serves as the contour and adds dimension to the look.
3 As you blend the V shape towards the crease of the eye, the eyeshadow pigments will be less concentrated, creating the illusion of a lighter shade.

4 # 0103 Apply a bronze eye shadow like Spice by CAO Cosmetics on the lid of the eye using an eyeshadow brush.
Lips:
1 Line the lips with a dark brown pencil and then fill in the lips. This works as a primer and keeps the lipstick on.

Evening Reception Look
Before: _DSC0426.JPG
Model: Bride-to-be Karlia Carty
Future bride Karlia Carty tried out an evening reception look for her upcoming wedding.
Face:
1 After mixing your foundation and primer, apply the mix to the four major problem areas: forehead, cheek, under the eyes and the chin. Spread the foundation outwards using a foundation brush. Karlia’s foundation shade is Shade 4 from AJ Crimson.
2 Highlight: Apply a foundation or concealer that is two to three shades lighter than your foundation. Apply underneath the eyes, the centre of the nose bridge leading up to the forehead and under the cheekbones (in between cheekbone and jaw line) using a foundation brush.
3 Contour: apply a concealer or foundation two to three shades darker than your foundation shade. Using a foundation or concealer brush, line the hairline, apply to the cheekbones, to the lower jaw line and the edges of the nasal bride. Blend in using a blending or stippling brush ensuring no lines of demarcation are left.
4 Lightly dip a powder brush into powder, like Tawny Herbal Rice Powder by Palladio, and dust over your face.
Tonij’s Tip -> Always dust instead of rubbing the powder on your face to prevent the make-up from looking cakey. A light dusting technique is preferred to avoid altering the colour of the foundation. If you have dry skin, a loose powder is not recommended. Try a compact powder instead.

Natural Bridal Look
Make-up artist at London Leo Makeup Teeah Anderson demonstrated a natural look which features a bright pop of lipstick, flirty lashes and natural-looking face and eyes.
Model: Danielle Bryan, Tourism and Hospitality Management student at UCC
Before:
_DSC0004.JPG
Face:
Teeah’s Tip -> Ensure the face is clean and moisturised. Make-up needs a well-moisturised face to sit well.
_DSC0058.JPG
1 Prime the face using a foundation brush. This is done to conceal any pores and lines. especially around the cheeks and nose.
2 Apply base foundation to even the skin tone using a foundation brush.
Teeah’s Tip -> Avoid using your fingers to apply foundation as the warmth from your hands can activate the oil glands on your face.
3 Apply powder to the entire face using a powder brush to set the foundation.
Eyebrows:
1 Use a dark brown pencil to fill in the eyebrow, following its natural shape.
Teeah’s Tip -> Avoid using black pencils to fill in your eyebrows — it makes your face appear hard.
2 Using a spoolie brush, fade the colour of the eyebrow pencil for a more natural finish.
3 Use concealer to clean up the edges of the eyebrow.
Eyes
_DSC0057.JPG
1 Deepen the crease by applying a dark brown shade.
2 Apply a light nude shade to the eyelids to make the crease pop.
Teeah’s Tip -> Don’t forget to blend in the eyeshadow and foundation.
3 Line the eyes with a black liquid eyeliner.
4 Add an accent lash to the outer part of the lashline.
Lip:
1 Line the lips to add definition with a dark red shade.
2 Blend a lighter red shade into the lips for a fuller look.
