Green Island High gets double dose of awareness
Staff members and students at Green Island High in Hanover recently benefited from breast cancer and fire safety awareness sessions convened by Sandals and Beaches Negril to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and Fire Safety Awareness Week which is observed from October 26 -November 1.
As part of the intervention, which took place on what was also the school’s ‘Pink Day’, Sandals Negril resident nurse Michelle Hollingsworth gave a presentation to teachers on breast cancer in Jamaica, risk factors, prevention and early detection.
The teachers were then guided in presenting songs, poems and drama pieces, which could be used to convey breast cancer awareness messages. The top presenters were awarded dinner passes to Sandals Negril, stationery items and beauty products. The Hanover Fire Department was also on hand to support the fire safety awareness aspect of the day’s activities with a fire drill and prevention tips. Fire Safety Awareness Week 2014 was observed under the theme ‘Communities in Action Supporting Fire Prevention’.
