A grand farewell for Kenneth Mattis OD
THE Stella Maris Catholic Church was packed with mourners last Friday as family, friends and well-wishers turned out in their numbers to pay final respects to Kenneth Barrington Mattis who departed this life on Saturday October 18.
A horse racing legend, Mattis is still the only man in the sport to be inducted in racing’s Hall of Fame as a jockey and as a trainer. He is best remembered for his association with great horses like None Such, Legal Light and D’s A Legend amongst many others.
The combination of Mattis as trainer and Winston Griffiths as jockey redefined the sport with the ultimate moment coming in 1981, when Royal Dad became the first horse to win the Triple Crown series of races at Caymanas Park.
The Complete Racing Guide pays its tribute to the life and times of Kenneth Mattis photographs taken at his funeral.
