Titchfield meet Glenmuir in rural high schools netball
TITCHFIELD High will go up against Glenmuir High as the 2014 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Digicel Rural High Schools Junior and Senior League netball second-round action continues today at several venues, starting at 10:00 am.
The Winston Wilson-coached Titchfield won their opening games in the Junior and Senior Leagues in second-round action, which started last Friday, by wide margins.
Titchfield, winners of the Open Rally for the urban schools, have been playing extremely well this season, and could be seen as teams to contend for both titles this year.
“We are without our captain and main shooter who misbehaved herself and did not play in the start of the second round last Friday. Nevertheless, the team did well to score over 50 goals and won convincingly,” said Wilson.
Meanwhile, Manchester High, who captured both the Junior and Senior League titles, will be playing against Mount Alvernia in the junior and senior competitions at 11:00 and 11:45 am, respectively, at the Whithorne Court.
Manchester High’s Simone Smith said she has not seen any of the teams currently play in Group Two, but will play every game against her opponents as if it is a final.
So far Manchester have beaten St James High and William Knibb High 48-8 and 68-17 in the juniors and seniors, respectively, in last week’s games.
“We need to do some more work with the players as the team looks towards winning their remaining matches and the competition,” Smith said. “I will be taking it one match at a time because they are unknown.”
Meanwhile, defending Junior League champions Denbigh High will face Yallahs, while Holmwood Technical meet Edwin Allen High at The Queen’s High Courts, starting at 10:30 am.
Holmwood, the Senior League defending champions, go up against Edwin Allen at 12:30 pm at Clarendon Park, while Denbigh take on St Thomas Technical at 11:30 am at The Queen’s School courts.
