Reggae Racers head to Guyana
IT will be two drivers and three bikers leading the Jamaican charge to next weekend’s Guyanese round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) at that country’s South Dakota circuit on November 15 and 16.
Motorcyclists Kyle Reynolds, David Bell and Chris Chung will accompany veteran racers Peter Rae and David Summerbell Jr, as they leave the island next Thursday courtesy ofFly Jamaica. Their vehicles are already on their way via Seaboard Marine, a major CMRC sponsor.
“We’ve been on board for a while now and we see regional motorsports as a perfect fit since Seaboard Marine Limited provides shipping around the Caribbean,” Coreen Williams of Seaboard Marine told Auto.
For Rae and Summerbell, their strategies are a bit different. Rae finds himself fifth in the CMRC Group 4 points battle, dropping from third after not contesting the Trinidadian round.
“They love rotaries in Guyana and the fans are amazing and enthusiastic,” Rae said, looking forward to his sixth year of competing at the circuit.
Summerbell returns to the site of his 2012 disqualification.
“I had crossed the finish line winning the race, but didn’t clear the first corner, leading them to disqualify me. They apologised and have since changed the rules. For me this is just a shakedown for the car as I look forward to 2015,” he said.
The level of competition, which spurred him on to take the trip, also captivates Summerbell.
“I have no points to defend, so it’s all out against the likes of the Jefferys and the Malonies,” he added.
Both men were able to fix their issues suffered on Heroes weekend before shipping their cars to Guyana. For the bikers this is a fresh trip to a new circuit.
“I’ve been studying the track online every night,” Reynolds explained.
He and Chung have deduced that South Dakota is a power track, but will still try their luck in both the bike classes available to them.
