Muschett maintain dominance out west
WAKEFIELD, Trelawny — Muschett High maintained their dominance in the Under-19 section of the ISSA Western Conference high school boys’ basketball competition after beating national champions William Knibb Memorial 74-65 in Wakefield on Monday.
Three players scored in double figures for Muschett as they ran their perfect win record to eight straight as they also won the Under-16 game to stay in contention for a semi-final place.
The teams will meet again today at William Knibb in a return-round fixture.
Meanwhile, St James High beat Holland High 57-20 in an Under-16 game.
On Monday, Muschett surged to a 10-point half-time lead (41-31) after holding a slender one-point (16-15), first-quarter lead and increased it after the third quarter.
Damaine Thorpe scored 21 points and had 11 assists for Muschett, Obrien Clarke 19 points and eight rebounds, while Lemon Thompson had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Don-Michael Fray had a game-high 27 points for William Knibb, while Daniel Henry scored eight points and 11 assists.
In the Under-16 game, Donjay Pearson scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals and Shawayne Small had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Muschett in their come-from-behind win.
Kimani Lodrick led William Knibb with 12 points, while Alwayne Wilson scored nine points.
In Montego Bay, St James High steamrolled Holland with Romario McFarlane and Aaron Allen both getting double-doubles.
McFarlane scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds and four blocked shots, Allen got 19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals, while Trey Brown also scored 16 points, nine rebounds and nine steals.
