US Marine Corps marks 239th anniversary
The United States Embassy recently marked the 239th Anniversary of the US Marine Corps with the Corps’ Annual Birthday Ball at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston. Chargé d’Affaires at the embassy, Elizabeth Lee Martinez and her husband Don Pohlman welcomed the evening’s guests, who included former commissioner of police, Hardley Lewin; commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations, Terrence Williams; deputy police chief, James Golding; commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Errol Mowatt; and members of the diplomatic corps. US military attendees included special guest Colonel John Poast, deputy commander of special operations – Command South; Colonel Brian Harris, defence attaché in Kingston; and Marine detachment commander Staff Sergeant Roland Hyacinthe.
