William Knibb, Cornwall to launch bid for basketball semis
MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — Defending champions William Knibb and Cornwall College could be battling for positions in the semi-finals of the Under-19 section of the ISSA/Western Conference high school boys basketball competition this afternoon when they meet in a return-round game at Martha Brae in Trelawny.
Both are already into the final four, but today’s result could determine who they play in the semi-finals set for later this week.
Herbert Morrison lead with 17 points, one more than Muschett High who play Holland today; Cornwall College are in third on 14 points, while William Knibb are on 13 points.
William Knibb won the first-round game between the two teams last week, but were beaten 50-46 by Herbert Morrison on Friday.
The teams will also meet in the Under-16 section where Cornwall College will start favourites to win.
Muschett, who have won all their games so far in the Under 19 section, will face Holland and a win will see them finish at the number one team going into the semi-finals.
They will also face St James High in a crucial Under-16 game that could decide the third and fourth seed in the semi-finals.
Muschett are on 15 points in third place, one more than St James High who are tied on 14 with defending champions Spot Valley on 14.
A second win of the season for St James over Muschett would see both tied on 16 points.
Herbert Morrison have secured the top spot with 24 points from 12 straight wins, while Cornwall College are second on 20 points.
