MONTEGO BAY, St James — UP to late yesterday evening the police were yet to identify the gunman who was shot and killed after he wounded nightclub operator and dancehall promoter Corey Todd in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

The police recovered a Glock 17 9mm pistol from the dead man.

Reports are that about 5:00 am, Todd, who operates the Taboo Nightclub in Fairview, St James, was pounced upon, shot and injured by a lone gunman.

Todd was shot in the right arm, which is said to be broken.

Meanwhile, a licensed firearm holder — who was in the company of Todd during the attack — challenged the gunman who was shot and killed.

The police are now seeking a motorcyclist who is believed to have been the accomplice of Todd’s attacker, but he sped away after the night club operator was shot.

No motive has been established for the attack.

According to Commander of the St James Police Division, Superintendent Derrick Champagnie, the police are following several leads “with a view to establishing the identity of the dead man.”

In the meantime, Superintendent Champagnie is issuing a stern warning to criminals migrating to St James to stay out of the parish.

“I want to warn persons who are being lured in the parish by gang members from as far as the Corporate Area and St Catherine to refrain from doing so as the police is aware of this new trend. In recent times, we have been apprehending a number of persons who are not from the parish that are here on the invitation of gang members,” the head honcho of the St James Police Division said.

He also appealed to residents to continue to partner with the police in putting a lid on crime which in recent time has been escalating in the parish.

“Within recent weeks, we would have seen an upsurge in criminal activities in the parish. I am asking law-abiding citizens to continue to partner with the police in bringing the situation under control,” appealed Superintendent Champagnie.
