LIME Foundation 6K to help fight cancer in children
The second staging of the LIME Foundation 6K Run/Walk will benefit victims of paediatric cancer and their families, it was announced during the launch at the Barbican Beach Complex on Wednesday.
The charity run, slated for January 18 next year, will be hosted in the area of the Fort Clarence Beach in Portmore, St Catherine, starting at 6:00 am.
The event will start at the beach with the six-kilometre route taking participants through the Hellshire community.
The Bustamante Hospital for Children remains the main beneficiary of the Foundation’s Run/Walk.
“This partnership with LIME Foundation is an excellent opportunity because it brings publicity in the public domain in terms of some of the issues and concerns we have like cancer in children. More persons can understand what’s happening and know how they can make a difference, even with social support,” said Dr Michelle-Ann Richards-Dawson, senior medical officer at Bustamante Hospital for Children.
Carlo Redwood, vice-president of marketing at LIME, noted the move to combine the Run/Walk with a beach fun day.
“Our foundation is very active across Jamaica. We do a lot for the schools and we do a lot for the kids so this is really just an extension of that. It’s something we started with Bustamante Hospital and we keep finding creative ways to give support. This is a beach run because we know everybody loves having a fun day at the beach,” Redwood said.
Participants can sign-up online at www.runningeventsja.com or by visiting the LIME outlets in Sovereign Centre, Portmore Mall or by Half-Way-Tree Road. The entry cost is $1000.
Members of the general public will have the opportunity to contribute by attending the after-run Family Fun Day at Fort Clarence. Gate proceeds will be donated to the cause.
The previous edition of the Run/Walk helped the LIME Foundation to donate $3 million towards the purchasing of renal screening equipment for the Hospital for Children.
Huawei Technologies, Caribbean Airlines, C&WJ Cooperative Credit Union, Guardian Life, Loshusan Supermarket and PetroJam Limited are some of the corporate entities to have pledged support for the 6K. The media partners include Jamaica Observer, Television Jamaica, Zip 103 FM and IRIE FM.
