Raja Sarangi the likely choice in JRTA feature
The Jamaica Racehorse Trainers Association (JRTA) race day will highlight day one of the two-day racing carnival today.
Several races with the names of many prominent men of racing are listed on the nine-race card among them an Overnight Allowance call going 1500 metres for the Seymour “Foggy” Mullings Memorial Trophy. Mullings the former minister responsible for racing was a well-loved patron of the sport.
The feature race on the card, however, is the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy, a Restricted Allowance 11 (NW2) slotted in at the penultimate stage of the programme for native-bred three-year-olds going 1,200 metres for a purse of $715,000.
The JRTA Trophy event has attracted a field of 10 that will to go post at approximately 4:25 pm with first post at 12:45 pm.
It is not a race that possesses a great deal of form and that makes it ripe for competitive racing with the top riders securing rides.
At a glance the Shane Ellis ridden Raja Sarangi prepared for racing by Howard Jaghai could prove to be the fly in the ointment while the Dwight Chen-trained Bad Boy Justin with Dane Nelson returning to the saddle could return to the winners’ enclosure.
However Raja Sarangi is the most consistent in the field and with the blinkers added could run well to leave non winners of two behind.
Semper Fidelis has been knocking loudly with the four time champion jockey Omar Walker in the irons
Uncle Chubby is another who has already won over the distance but he is not the most reliable at the gates but could come late for his piece of the action.
