Holiday Weekend not all about fun and frolic
The two-day racing saga at Caymanas Park continues today with a 10-race schedule to be headlined by the Joseph Armond Memorial Cup going 1,820 metres for a purse of $715,000. Ones To Watch
Set among three-year-olds and upward, imported three-year-olds and upward maidens and, three-year-olds (NW2) lifetime.
A field of eight runners are drawn to go to post approximately 1:20 pm with first post at 12:20 pm.
Shellian Grey, Epic Zar, Junior Don along with Natashadontplay have shown a distinct likeness for the extended sprint journey. Shellian Grey and Epic Zar have recently opened their winning careers over the distance and did so in fine style going away from the field. However, in today’s contest they will have none other than the imported Holiday Weekend with whom to do combat.
Holiday Weekend also opened his winning account this year on September 27, going 1,700 metres and had both Shellian Grey and Epic Zar some distance behind.
The manner in which this Weekend Cruise bay colt, out of Fighting Queen (Bouncing Brave) bred by Dion Jackson, dismissed the opposition when winning has clearly shown that the additional 120 metres will be thoroughly welcomed.
Ironically, leading rider Dane Nelson, who has the leg up on Holiday Cruise, piloted all three to their initial successes and has chosen Holiday Weekend as the one most likely to come out on top for owner Rising Star and trainer Johnny Wilmot.
Holiday Weekend showed on last that he was in good spirits as he was seen making good headway going 1,600 metres with apprentice Orayne Sewell riding. The ‘Figure 8’ that might have been a hindrance before has been removed, and with the change of rider and equipment, Holiday Weekend could turn the Joseph Armond Memorial into a Sunday afternoon weekend cruise.
