Former Premier League giants Santos FC, marched to their second consecutive win from three starts after blanking August Town 2-0 in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League at the Bell-Chung Oval on Saturday.
While Santos were winning for the second time, August Town were losing for the second time, having lost their opening while drawing their second.
In other results, Browns Town blanked Shortwood United 4-0; Bull Bay were edged 1-0 by Real Mona; Mountain View and Allman/Woodford drew 2-2, while Rae Town suffered a humiliating 1-7 defeat to UWI.
In Major League action on Saturday, New Kingston edged Swallowfield 1-0; Police National and Greenwich Town ended 2-2.
At the Bell-Chung Oval, Santos returned for the second half with greater purpose following a less than constructive first half.
And as the game progressed Santos started to grow in confidence. The Carlton ‘Spanner’ Dennis-coached team then began to mount a series of challenges until their industry finally paid off.
In the 66th minute the long-standing striker, Fabian Nethersole, profitted from being left unmarked in the penalty box and he found the room and space to poke a crisp shot out of the reach of dependable goalkeeper Devon Haughton.
Success breeds success and Santos continued to exploit gaping spaces in the August Town defensive frame work and by the 82nd minute Ronaldo Brown found himself unmarked on the edge of the six-yard area and made his opportunity count by hitting the net with a strong right-footed shot.
In yesterday’s Major League action, Whitfield Town Fc nipped Olympic Gardens FC 1-0; Duhaney Park FC blanked Red Hills FC 2-0, while Maverley/Hughenden and Meadforest registered identical 1-0 victories over Stony Hill FC and Cooreville Gardens, respectively.
