Woodard, a frequent visitor to the island, has enjoyed a very successful film career since getting her first break in Remember My Name in 1978, starring alongside Jeff Goldblum.

Her most recent project is her role as United States President Constance Payton in the Katherine Heigl political drama State of Affairs on NBC.

The series, according to the Hollywood Reporter, tells the story of maverick CIA officer Charleston Tucker (Heigl), who is taken from the field to become President Payton’s daily briefer, with responsibility for targeting the United States’ most critical threats while navigating the unique lifestyle that comes with such a high-powered job.

Woodard, who was nominated for an Oscar in 1984 for her supporting role in Cross Creek, is also a three-time Golden Globe nominee, winning in 1998 for Miss Evers’ Boys.

She has won four Emmy awards for her performances in Hill Street Blues, LA Law, Miss Evers’ Boys, and The Practice.

Woodard has also appeared in St Elsewhere, True Blood, Homicide: Life on the Street, 12 Years a Slave, Beauty Shop, and The Forgotten.
