Alacrann – the best juvenile in the land
A dramatic and telling surge plus a move towards the clear passage of the inside rail running position were just the requirements needed by the Anthony Nunes trained, Dane Nelson-ridden, Alacrann to leave the racetrack on Boxing Day as the top tw0-year-old in the land.
Victory came easy for the chestnut colt who made the much-talked-about clash with Come Dance With Me and Polly B a mere formality, winning the one mile, 103rd running of the Supreme Ventures- sponsored Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes in a manner which suggests that he is primed and ready for the longer races during the Classic season of 2015.
It was a superlative effort by Alacrann who now has the distinction of winning two of the races in the Supreme Ventures Two-Year-Old ‘Triple Crown’ Series, which is valued at $10.8 million.
The Complete Racing Guide recaps the one-mile event.
Alacrann – first
Alacrann again got the job done in his usual late running style. Three time champion jockey Dane Nelson who seems to have been nudging towards an alliance with Nunes did what was to be expected. He waited as the leaders set the fractions before getting closer leaving the three-furlong marker. Then all Nelson had to do was find running space for Alacrann, which he did with aplomb. Alacrann demonstrated his class and well-being by pulling away for what was really an easy win. Alacrann has class, and based on his performances thus far will be able to effectively go longer distances. He was well prepared by Nunes whose main task now is to guide the chestnut colt in the three-year-old season and the Classics races. The time done by Alacrann, 1:39.2 minutes is also indicative of his class.
